Clover is a default starting item that benefits every character and build. Early Luck investment creates a snowball effect that carries throughout your entire run.
Clover is one of the most universally valuable items in Megabonk. As a default starting item, it requires no unlock and can appear in your very first run. Its simple yet powerful effect—+10% Luck (buffed from 7.5% in v1.0.49)—quietly shapes the quality of everything you acquire throughout your run.
The full Luck stat guide owns the generic mechanic, rarity formula, and probability examples. In short, Luck directly influences the rarity and quality of rewards you receive. Higher Luck means better loot across multiple game systems:
Luck in Megabonk exclusively impacts item drop rarity and upgrade quality. It does not influence critical hit chance, item proc rates, or on-hit effect trigger frequency. These are separate mechanics entirely.
Investing in Luck early creates a powerful compound effect. Better items lead to stronger combat performance, which allows you to survive longer and reach even more valuable loot opportunities. A single early Clover can significantly improve the trajectory of your entire run.
Clover shines brightest when combined with other Luck-stacking items and tomes:
The cornerstone of any Luck build. Increases Luck progressively with each level, compounding with Clover's flat bonus. Unlocked as an extremely rare enemy drop, commonly listed at about 0.01%.
Fox gains +1.5% Luck per character level (up to +150% at Level 100). Combined with Clover's +10% and Luck Tome's +8% per level, Fox can build very high Luck for premium rewards.
Permanently gain +2% Luck every time you open a chest. Stacks alongside Clover for aggressive Luck scaling throughout a run.
+7% XP per level (post-patch 1.0.12). Level faster to multiply the number of high-quality upgrade rolls you receive from Luck. Part of the Holy Trinity meta.
Increases enemy spawns and difficulty. More enemies = more XP and drops = more opportunities for Luck to shine. Completes the Holy Trinity strategy.
Increase currency generation. Better Luck means better shop offerings, and more gold means you can actually afford them. Perfect economic synergy.
Meta Build: Luck Tome + XP Tome + Cursed Tome
This combination creates a perfect feedback loop:
Add Clover to this trinity for even faster Luck scaling. Top players prioritize securing all three tomes within the first 5 minutes.
Clover is most valuable in the early and mid-game stages:
Luck uses a weighted rarity roll with diminishing returns, not a threshold that guarantees premium rewards. In the current community model, moving from 0% to 100% Luck raises the approximate Legendary chance from 1.62% to 4.74%. See the Luck formula and full probability table.
Don't open chests immediately. Stack Luck first (Clover + Luck Tome levels), then open all saved chests for dramatically better rewards. This strategy is especially effective with CL4NK and Fox.
High priority: Fox's +1.5% Luck per level makes Clover's +10% especially valuable early.
Clover synergizes with CL4NK's Curse affinity. Pair with Cursed Tome for explosive XP/Luck scaling.
Robinette's gold generation pairs well with Luck-improved shop offerings. Good economy synergy.
Lower priority for tanks like Megachad. Still valuable but not mandatory.
