🔓 Unlocking Tornado
How: In the Desert, wait for a Sandstorm and charge a Charge Shrine during the storm. Do this a total of 5 times (cumulative across runs). After meeting the requirement, claim/purchase the weapon in the Unlocks tab from the main menu.
Tips
- Sandstorms occur randomly—roam near known shrine spots so you can reach one quickly when the storm begins.
- The UI in Unlocks shows your running progress; you don’t need all 5 in one attempt.
📊 Mechanics & Behavior
Tornado sends out small tornado projectiles that push enemies away on contact. Its damage is modest, but the displacement creates breathing room for repositioning and item pickup.
Upgrades This Weapon Can Roll
- Damage
- Knockback
- Projectile Count
- Projectile Speed
- Size
Note on “Piercing” / exact cooldown values
Public guides focus on Tornado’s knockback utility and do not provide official piercing/cooldown figures. Treat in-game descriptions as the source of truth.
| Property | Value | Comment |
| Base Damage | 8 | Low; complements its defensive role |
| Role | Space control | Pushes mobs back to buy time |
| Best use | With precision or setup weapons | Maintain safe distance for aim/setups |
⬆️ Recommended Scaling (Tomes & Items)
Tomes
- Size Tome – increases area per level (excellent for coverage).
- Precision Tome – raises crit chance; enables crit-based hybrids.
- Cooldown / Quantity – more spawns and more projectiles for steadier control.
On-Hit & Crit Items
- Forbidden Juice – +10% Crit Chance; staple for crit paths.
- Overpowered Lamp – grants an extra proc roll for on-hit effects (e.g., freeze, lightning, explosions).
- Giant Fork – gives a chance for MegaCrits (crits that escalate into even bigger crits).
Build Idea
Use Tornado to maintain distance while your high-DPS weapons (e.g., Sniper Rifle/Revolver/Lightning Staff) do the killing. Size/Cooldown/Quantity ensure consistent crowd control; add crit layers only if your other weapons scale with crits.
🦅 Birdo Synergy (Float)
Birdo’s passive “Float” lets you hold Jump to hover in the air, which pairs naturally with Tornado’s pushback—create safe ground space, then descend or glide to reposition.
Birdo Unlock (for reference)
Kill 100 enemies with Tornado while being carried by a natural Desert tornado, then claim the character. This requirement teaches the aerial play pattern that works well with Tornado.
