Tomes form the foundation of your power scaling in Megabonk. Picking the right combination of passives drastically impacts whether you survive the final waves or get overwhelmed. In our updated Megabonk Tomes Tier List, we rank every tome based on versatility, exponential scaling, and late-game impact. We also provide the exact unlock conditions for hidden tomes. (Based on version 1.0.64)
The undisputed king of scaling. Reducing your attack cooldowns means faster wave clears, more procs for on-hit effects, and overwhelming DPS.
Default UnlockFires additional projectiles or multiplies attack instances. It directly doubles or triples your damage output for almost every weapon in the game.
Unlock: Fire 5,000 ProjectilesA pure, raw damage boost. Fundamental for ensuring your weapons can keep up with the scaling health pools of late-game elites and bosses.
Default UnlockAccelerates experience gain, allowing you to hit weapon power spikes much earlier. Essential for snowballing hard before minute 15.
Default UnlockBoosts the chance of rare item drops and high-tier weapon upgrades. Critical for pushing high scores and perfecting your loadout.
Default UnlockSignificantly increases your maximum health pool. The best flat-value defensive buffer to prevent fatal one-shots.
Default UnlockProvides life steal on hit. The premier sustain tool that keeps you alive through intense chip damage in long runs.
Unlock: Kill 5,000 EnemiesIncreases critical strike chance. Becomes heavily potent when combined with high fire-rate weapons and overcrit mechanics.
Default UnlockBoosts movement speed. Crucial for outmaneuvering boss patterns, dodging projectiles, and escaping encirclements.
Default UnlockMassively expands AoE indicators, projectiles, and explosions. Phenomenal for crowd-clearing weapons.
Default UnlockFlat damage reduction. Pairs exceptionally well with HP and regeneration to make your character a walking fortress.
Unlock: Take 5,000 Damage in one runProvides passive healing over time. Less reliable than Bloody Tome for aggressive play, but an okay substitute.
Generates a buffer shield that stops damage. Breaking it requires avoiding damage for a short duration to let it recharge. Good for slower builds.
A farming tome that boosts coin drops. Great for account progression but provides zero combat value mid-run.
These tomes should generally be avoided unless you are doing a specific challenge or farming for unlocks.
While many tomes are granted to you natively at the start of the game, Megabonk hides some of its most powerful options behind cumulative gameplay challenges. Here is a cheat sheet to unlock them all:
| Tome | Unlock Requirement |
|---|---|
| Quantity Tome | Fire a cumulative total of 5,000 projectiles across all runs. |
| Bloody Tome | Kill 5,000 enemies total across your account. |
| Armor Tome | Take 5,000 points of damage over the course of a single run. |
| Attraction Tome | Collect 5,000 XP Orbs total. |
| Duration Tome | Deal 50,000 total damage. |
| Chaos Tome | Reroll level-up weapon/tome offers 100 times. |
| Thorns Tome | Block 250 attacks using the Aegis weapon. |
| Cursed Tome | Survive for exactly 15 minutes in a single run. |
The absolute best S-Tier tomes are the Cooldown Tome, Quantity Tome, Damage Tome, XP Tome, HP Tome, and Luck Tome. These scale exponentially and fit in almost every character build by multiplying your damage output and survivability.
You can unlock the Quantity Tome by firing a total of 5,000 projectiles. This carries over between runs, so playing characters with fast-firing multi-projectile weapons will unlock it extremely quickly.
The Bloody Tome is unlocked globally for your account once you accumulate a total of 5,000 enemy kills throughout your gameplay.
