Megabonk Challenges Guide

Challenges are optional run modifiers tied to a map and tier. Activate one Challenge, satisfy its listed goal, and finish the run under its special rule. This hub explains what counts, what fails a run, the Silver reward, and which build gives you the cleanest route.

Challenges and Unlocks Have Different Jobs

Use this page when you need to complete a special run. Use the Unlocks Hub when you need the requirement for a character, weapon, Item, Tome or Shop upgrade.

Challenge runs are not leaderboard runs

A run with an active Challenge is excluded from the normal leaderboards. Use a standard run when score or leaderboard placement is the goal.

Forest Challenges: Rules and Rewards

Tier 1 contains the distinct rule sets. Tiers 2 and 3 repeat the no-hit, speed and enemy-stat families with longer stage limits or harder encounters.

Which Challenges Should You Complete First?

Start with rules that change one clear behavior, then move to strict no-hit and doubled-stat runs. This order earns completion milestones without requiring a perfect endgame pool.

Learn one simple rule

Start with Smol Boi, Sticks and stones or Weird Controls on Forest Tier 1.

Use a purpose-built route

Do AFK Gaming, regular Speedrunner and The Floor is Lava with a matching character and build.

Leave punishment runs last

Attempt Pacifist, Fragile, Speedrunner+ and doubled enemy-stat variants after your core unlock pool is ready.

AFK Gaming

Do not move or jump; reach the Final Swarm. Attraction, passive coverage and survival matter more than map routing.

Build Strategy by Challenge Type

Fragile / no-hit

  • Use ranged coverage and movement that you can control precisely.
  • Enemy contact can fail the run even if a defensive effect prevents visible HP loss.
  • Avoid walls, cliff bases and unsafe landings; falling enemies and fall damage are real failure routes.

Speedrunner

  • Find the boss portal early and farm near the objective.
  • Concentrate upgrades into a small damage core instead of filling every slot.
  • Choose mobility only when it saves more routing time than damage would save in the boss fight.

Restricted pool

  • For Sticks and stones, plan around weapons and Tomes because Items are unavailable.
  • For Turbo Mode, buy early cheap chests but stop detouring once scaling becomes dangerous.
  • Use the Toggler before the run to remove eligible options that cannot support the objective.

Higher enemy stats

  • Treat 1.25x, 1.5x and 2x variants as damage-check runs.
  • Keep one survival layer, but prioritize a coherent damage engine and boss uptime.
  • Do not assume one Tome trio is mandatory for every character or Challenge.

What Does Ignore Offers Do?

It skips a reward; it is not a Challenge

Ignore Offers closes the current reward selection without taking any option. It does not count as completing a Challenge, does not banish the choices, and does not permanently remove them from later pools. Use it when every offered stat or upgrade would conflict with the current objective.

BanishReject an option for the current run.Removes that option from later offers in that run.

Challenge Completions That Feed Unlocks

Some entities use your completed-Challenge count as their requirement. This page explains how to earn the completions; the Unlocks Hub organizes the entities and their exact requirements.

Megabonk Challenges FAQ

What are Challenges in Megabonk?

They are optional run modifiers tied to a stage and tier. Activate one, obey its special rule and finish its listed goal. Only one can be active at a time.

What are the easiest Challenges to complete first?

Start with Forest Tier 1. Smol Boi, Sticks and stones, Weird Controls, AFK Gaming and the regular Speedrunner are practical early targets, but the best choice depends on your characters and Shop upgrades.

Does every Challenge require killing all bosses?

No. Most do, but the objective shown in the Challenge menu is authoritative. AFK Gaming, for example, requires reaching the Final Swarm rather than killing all bosses.

Does Pacifist mean zero kills?

No. Pacifist removes weapons; you still need to kill the bosses. Character passives and valid non-weapon damage are central to the route.

Does Ignore Offers complete or protect a Challenge?

No. It only skips the current reward screen. It can help avoid an unwanted effect, but it is not a Challenge and does not change the Challenge's success condition.

Where can I find character, weapon and Item unlock requirements?

Use the Megabonk Unlocks Hub. It is the entity directory; this page remains focused on Challenge rules and completion methods.
