Quest milestones and permanent Shop upgrades
Start with two Tomes, reach the 35- and 55-Quest milestones, then buy each permanent Shop Upgrade to carry as many as four Tomes in a run.
Megabonk starts you with two Tome slots. Complete 35 Quests, then buy Tome Slots in the Shop to get slot 3. Complete 55 Quests, then buy Tome Slots 2 to get slot 4.
The Quest milestone does not add the slot immediately. It makes the matching permanent upgrade available in the Shop; you must still purchase it with Silver.
3rd Slot
4th Slot
Current milestone sequence: the third Tome slot unlocks later than the third weapon slot, and the fourth Tome slot unlocks later than the fourth weapon slot. Do not use older guides that still tell you to complete about 60 Quests.
The game tracks eligible objectives across runs. You do not need to complete 35 or 55 objectives during one stage.
“35 Quests” does not mean reaching Level 35 during a run. Character and Tome levels reset between runs; lifetime Quest progress does not.
Unlocking a Tome adds it to your available content pool. It does not increase the number of Tomes one run can hold.
Buying characters, weapons, Items and Tomes uses a different counter. Purchase count is relevant to Toggler, not Tome Slots.
| Capacity | Main advantage | Main tradeoff | Good use case |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 Tomes | Levels concentrate into a very small stat package. | You give up important utility or scaling categories. | Focused unlock challenges that need one or two Tome effects quickly. |
| 3 Tomes | Balances damage, economy and survival without spreading levels too widely. | The third Tome competes for level-up choices. | Most progression runs after the first capacity upgrade. |
| 4 Tomes | Supports a complete package such as XP, damage, coverage and defense. | More Tomes can dilute upgrades when one Tome must reach a high level fast. | Developed builds and long runs with clear Tome roles. |
Maximum does not mean mandatory: buying a slot raises capacity but does not force you to take another Tome. For an unlock such as reaching a specific Tome level before a time limit, leaving a slot open can keep more levels focused on the required Tome.
Return to the Shop and purchase the matching permanent upgrade. The milestone only makes it available.
Confirm that the counter is completed Quests, not unlock purchases, character level or Tome discoveries. The required totals are 35 and 55.
Tome Slots 2 is a separate Shop Upgrade. Owning the third slot does not bypass the 55-Quest milestone or the second purchase.
Expected behavior. Tome and weapon slots are independent upgrades with different milestone totals.
Check that the permanent upgrade was purchased on the same save and restart the run after completing the Shop purchase.
Do not accept an unwanted Tome. Extra capacity is optional; Toggler changes eligible content, not slot capacity.

You begin with two. Permanent Shop Upgrades raise maximum capacity to three and then four.
Complete 55 lifetime Quests, return to the Shop and purchase Tome Slots 2.
The milestone unlocks Tome Slots in the Shop. Purchase that permanent upgrade with Silver to activate the third slot.
No. Weapon slots unlock at 25 and 45 completed Quests. Tome slots unlock at 35 and 55. Each category has its own Shop purchases.
No. Toggler lets you control eligible unlocked content before a run. It does not change Tome capacity. See the Toggler guide.
They offer more build flexibility, but a focused challenge may benefit from taking fewer Tomes so level-up choices stay concentrated.
